Cuauhtémoc
Back in 2008 I photographed Cuauhtémoc in Balestrand, Norway.
Frank J. Lehn wrote this in a comment; “Every year around Christmas time, this photo gets circulated on Facebook with the false claim that it was taken off the Oregon coast, usually Garibaldi. I've gotten into some pretty heated debates over it. It's a beauty of a pic, but I'd like to find some info about the ship”. So Frank, this is the fact.
Cuauhtémoc was built in Bilbao, Spain in 1981 and originally called Celaya. She was later acquired by the Mexican Navy as a training vessel for officers, cadets, petty officers and sailors. Cuauhtemoc sailed the world for thirteen years and in 1995 underwent a major refit of the ship and rigging.
Cuauhtémoc has been the proud winner of the Tall Ships’ Races on two occasions. Link below…
